Katrina never listened when they said don't work with kids. Her experience as a qualified child-care professional means that she knows exactly how to handle them.

Katrina works with families to create photographs to be treasured forever. She prefers a natural environment, lots of fun, and lots of great times.

Katrina likes to keep things relaxed for the children. She goes for a natural, loving look and can deal with kids of all ages, from tiny babies through to teenagers.

She knows your time is precious, and she doesn’t waste it. Katrina will work hard for the right photograph, but she plans her shoots efficiently, keeping them as quick as possible.

Katrina has an open, friendly manner, which relaxes even the stiffest family members, and she can coax a smile out of young and old alike.

Katrina's tips for great photos of kids:

• I like to plan a shoot for either early in the morning, or after a child’s nap. That way they’re fresh and happy.

  
  

• Parents should try to resist dressing kids up too much. A hot jumper or a scratchy top will put them in a bad mood. If you have to get a photo of the cardigan grandma made, I’d rather take a few shots of it at the beginning of the shoot then have them take it off if they're hot.

• Kids need to be in the mood – if they’re sick, I'm happy to reschedule.

  
  

• I like to talk to older kids – find out what they're interested in so I can talk about it with them through the shoot. It puts their mind at ease.

  
  

• It's great when clients book repeat shoots – every year or even every six months with young babies. That way, all those tiny changes don't just get forgotten. I'm happy to discuss discounts with frequent clients.

Katrina's tips for great wedding photos:

• Get a list of all the group shots you need, so you don't forget anyone, and you can work through it without wasting time. Katrina's natural affinity with people means that she can get groups organised without fuss.

  
  

• If there are photos with children, (flower-girls and page-boys) take them first, before tiredness and food stains set in!

  
  

• If your group photos are being taken in a park or beach, get to know the environment a little so you don’t spend your time scrambling over unfamiliar territory. Katrina is happy to advise on good lighting and environmental conditions.

  
  

• Let the magic take over – don’t be afraid of candid and unposed shots, as these can often provide you with the most wonderful memories for years to come.
